Pantanal 2015

We visited the Pantanal in September 2015 on an Exodus tour led by the irrepressible and enthusiastic Paul Goldstein. We had some amazing wildlife encounters, most notably observing a pair of Jaguars which were mating. This led to extremely vocal and aggressive interactions between the pair, and of course exceptional viewing for us. They were at the end of the mating cycle and the female seemed to have had enough! The day afterwards we saw her on her own and in hunting mode after a week or so without food. Overall a wonderful trip.

Peace descends, and they have the appearance of a happy couple

PantanalJaguar

  • A moment of peace
  • But he was still watching her very attentively
  • He was approaching her again
  • Tiring work, and very hot as well
  • She was a beautiful animal and in wonderful condition
  • The finale of another mating, and this time a very aggressive one
  • Fortunately there was very little physical contact although it looks violent
  • Both back off a little
  • And then she turns all coy and tarty! Or should I say submissive?
  • He still wants more!
  • Peace descends, and they have the appearance of a happy couple
  • Time for a wash
  • We saw a second male nearby and we had heard the roars of a fight previously
  • The male had departed and the female was left on her own. She was obviously hungry and in hunting mode
  • Out of the shadows
